Happy 85th Birthday, B.B.!

|

On this day in 1925, in Indianola, Mississippi a child by the name of Riley B. King would be born. Better known to the world as "B.B. King," One of a handful of the most influential bluesmen of the 20th century, it could be argued that King has brought the blues to more people around the world than any other artist.

Although King's fluid, muscular guitar tone and smoky vocals are informed by the Mississippi Delta that he grew up in, his phenomenal sound is equal parts electric Chicago blues and early jazz guitar, influenced by both Louis Jordan and Charlie Christian. With a career that has spanned six decades and over 50 albums, King reigns as one of the most popular and successful bluesmen of the genre. King is still going strong today, touring constantly while his 2008 album One Kind Favor won all sorts of acclaim and awards. Join us today in celebrating the life and career of the great B.B. King!
