Blues, Art and More at The Rainier Arts Festival Sept 30th - Oct 2nd
The 5th Annual Rainier Arts Festival will be held Sept 30, Oct 1-2, 2011 at the foot of one of the most beautiful mountains in the lower 48 states. Centering around talented visual artisans, the festival includes fantastic live blues music. And it's free!
The festival is in the center of Ashford, Washington at Whittaker Mountaineering and its park-like setting. Mt. Rainier is a majestic presence over the Washington skyline. Its beauty has been the source of inspiration to artists of all mediums for centuries. The festival brings together a diverse variety of talented artists, workshops and visitors for this annual event. Presented in the clear, mountain atmosphere it is a retreat from the city and a celebration of fall color.

Mia Vermillion will be preforming on Friday. In 2009, Mia independently released her first CD entitled "Alone Together With the Blues." Her record has received rave reviews and national attention, and can be heard on XM Radio. She has opened for John Hammond and Candye Kane. Earlier this year she performed at Jazz Alley in Seattle, and on the mainstage at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, Oregon.
The Randy Oxford Band
The 2011 International Music Challenge Finalists in Memphis,TN. The Randy Oxford Band will be performing new songs from their new CD, "FESTIVAL". From the News Tribune: "Along that musical path, Oxford, a talented trombonist, has unearthed the ingredients for an original blend, one that combines elements of blues, jazz, R&B, funk, rock and even some country."

John Sparrow
Together with Joe Debenedictis, John Sparrow has performed Folk & Blues Music for the past decade and written more songs than even he can remember. Some of them are some of the best songs you've never heard! They have recorded six of their own CDs and worked on the several film sound tracks. They have both contributed individually to over 30 recording projects and have shared the stage with folk music national treasures Utah Phillips and Rosalee Sorrels, Anne Hills, David Mallett as well as blues heroes Mark Whitman, Randy Oxford, Kim Archer and jazz giants Jay McShann and Stanley Jordan to name just a few.

2011 "Washington State Harmonica player and performer of the year" from the Seattle Band, "Jeff and the Jet City Fliers", doing an acoustic style duo with Rusty Williams featuring great vocals,Guitar and Harmonica, playing folk and Blues songs from the mid 20th century to the present.
